Parker Woods Montessori School

Summary:

Parker Woods Montessori School is a public elementary school serving grades PK-6 in the Cincinnati Public Schools district, with a diverse student population.

The school consistently outperforms the district and state averages on Ohio state tests, particularly in Mathematics and English Language Arts. In 2023-2024, 51.5% of 3rd graders, 52.2% of 4th graders, 46.9% of 5th graders, and 39.1% of 6th graders were proficient or better in Mathematics, surpassing the district and state. However, the school faces challenges with a sharp increase in chronic absenteeism, rising from 8.9% in 2019-2020 to 26.2% in 2022-2023, which is notably higher than the district average of 19.9%. The school's student-teacher ratio has fluctuated, ranging from 17.2 in 2020-2021 to 21.8 in 2021-2022, which is higher than nearby Clifton Area Neighborhood School and Fairview-Clifton German Language School.

While Parker Woods Montessori School outperforms the district and state, there are significant racial disparities in student performance, with African American students ranking in the bottom 20% of Ohio elementary schools, and White students ranking in the top 25%. This suggests the need for targeted interventions and support to address the achievement gap. Nearby Fairview-Clifton German Language School consistently outperforms Parker Woods Montessori School and the district on state assessments, indicating that successful practices from this school could potentially be replicated to improve student outcomes at Parker Woods Montessori School.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Typically I would never rate a Montessori at a 1 being a Montessori alumni (attends sands/ son attended dater and gamble Montessori) Parker woods has been a huge disappointment with structure and communication. I have felt with Parker woods for 2 years and have
Had the worst experience. My daughter has an IEP and I have only had 2 meeting regarding interventions, lunch ladies bullying the kids I had to call the board of education, dismissal is a mess, and this was all before COVID, it’s much worse now. Please look at other Montessori schools. Close Quote

Open Quote I love my experience at Winton Montessori. CPS is a struggling District, but this particular Magnet School is a TRUE Montessori. We call it 'the best kept secret' because on paper, you don't get the full picture of what the teachers and staff accomplish through Montessori methods.

This school deserves a visit and a conversation with the Principal. Please visit http://wmpto.org/ for closer look and consider a tour to get a personal experience of your own? Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
