Cypress High School

Summary:

Cypress High School is a public charter high school in Mansfield, Ohio, serving 176 students in grades 9-12. The school is part of the Cypress High School District, which is ranked 767 out of 839 districts in the state and has a 0-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Cypress High School stands out for its relatively diverse student population, with 64.2% White, 18.18% African American, 0.57% Hispanic, and 15.91% two or more races. However, the school's academic performance is significantly lower than the state average, with only 18.6% of students proficient or better in English II and just 3.8% proficient or better in Algebra I. The school's four-year graduation rate has also declined, from 66.7% in 2020-2021 to 51.3% in 2021-2022, which is much lower than the state average and the nearby Pioneer Career & Technology school, which had a 37.6% free and reduced lunch rate in 2022-2023.

Cypress High School's high chronic absenteeism rate, ranging from 80.7% in 2020-2021 to 86.9% in 2019-2020, is a concerning metric that likely contributes to the school's low academic performance and graduation rates. Despite being a public charter school, Cypress High School has not shown significant improvement in its performance over the past few years, and its overall rating has remained at 1 star out of 5. The school's diverse student population is a positive aspect, but it is unclear whether the school is effectively supporting the academic and social-emotional needs of its students.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote The environment is rough! it's nothing to hear about fights. Drinking, drugs, and vaping is easily found in this school. there is even a video posted online of kids drinking in the bathroom. There was an incident of a drunk student stumbling around shortly after. you want to feel worthless the kids will help push you over the edge! Don't confront anyone because their school is perfect. if your kid doesn't care and wants to rush through school this is the place for you. if you have a good student that wants to pursue CCP and has plans for their future please avoid this school. They wanted my kid to graduate 2 years early. no free college classes or any benefits that are widely available for the children. Up until the day we left they were pushing her to graduate this year. It's stupid! I thought well it's a new school give it time, but it's worse this year! teacher turnover is crazy! there are no school dances just the promise of them. Honestly, I hope this nightmare of a school gets shut down. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
