Open Quote horrible school if your trying to set your child up for seduces and reentry into traditional education. They don't encourage relationship building or problem solving among the kids they are all about alienating and creating walls. There philosophy is absolutely ridiculous. They have no real "rules" so when they come across tough situations with students they are in charge and and actually work to make things worse versus trying to get the student where they need to be. Its an overgrown romper room kids go to school basically in pajamas its like day care for grown kids...academically they are leaps and bounds behind the public school system Close Quote

Open Quote West End Day is exceptional.

My son is now in his third year, and I have been truly amazed and delighted by his intellectual, social, and emotional growth. When he began at West End Day, school had become an environment he dreaded; now, my son is disappointed when it's a school holiday! The director, Carrie Catapano, is in a league of her own: brilliant, talented, energetic, devoted, and warm. The teachers have long tenure, deep empathy, and strong pedagogy. They provide a warm and supportive environment that provides great academic challenge. That's a rare combination -- West End Day is superb. Close Quote

Open Quote PROS:
WED offers kids a safe space to learn and develop at their own pace. The curriculum is on par with other schools, and in some cases even more advanced than other schools I have visited. Children are challenged, yet supported. The overall environment is a warm and caring one. My child is happy here, and I am glad to see how she has thrived.

CONS:
As a private school, it is pricey. Upside is that they will work with you to try to obtain assistance. Close Quote

Open Quote My son has been a student of West End Day School for four years. I can't say enough about how wonderful this school has been for my son. It's not overstating it to say that this school changed our lives. The support of the teachers and staff is just phenomenal. They are so warm and knowledgeable and caring. The communication between parent and teachers is wonderful. The academics are strong. It really has been a safe haven where my son has been able to grow and learn. WE LOVE THIS PLACE!! Close Quote

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
