Open Quote This is a terrible school. I had my son and daughter at this school. I took both of them out and put them into public school, where I know they are getting a much better education. There are some very caring teachers here, however except for the pre-k teachers none of them are certified. Many of the teachers give an overwhelming amount of homework. This school is trying very hard to succeed but they simply don't know what they are doing. The administration accepts criticism well but is unable or unwilling to make any changes. Close Quote

Open Quote DGK offers children a safe, nurturing environment where academics, socialization, and the practices of our Greek Orthodox faith are modeled and taught. Parents can expect an accountable and challenging curriculum that focuses on the development of the entire child. The principal and teachers are qualified and dedicated. The school board is made up of resourceful and hard working individuals. My child is presently in kindergarten and I could not be happier with the progress he has made since last year. The teacher uses The Scott Foresman Series along with Balanced Literacy, and Writer's Workshop to teach Language Arts. Mathematics is also taught using The Scott Foresman Series and is enhanced with the use of manipulatives and hands-on activities. Students take weekly Phonics and Word Study Assessments as well as monthly chapter math tests. As a teacher, i believe it is imperative to teach children how to be accountable and responsible in a non-threatening manner. These assessments and feedbacks serve as the foundation and base for future academic achievement.
Students engage in both individual tasks and cooperative learning exercises. Students also get the opportunity to learn the Greek language daily. They also have religion, gym, technology, dance, chorus, and art.
The school also provides an after-school program that offers academic enrichment activities, organized open gym time, test prep, arts and crafts and homework assistance.
I invite all parents of prospective students to come visit the school and to see for themselves that DGK is the best kept secret in Bayridge Brooklyn! Close Quote

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
