Open Quote For years, Clearview hired teachers who were either college students or en route to a Master's Degree. This school has a history of hiring teachers who used verbal abuse; threats; public humiliation and ridicule. Another problem is that a good number of the teachers would have the brighter kids doing work that was way below their ability level.

Since the school has such an abbreviated schedule, the kids are being royally shortchanged. Decisions are made WITHOUT parental input and parents are often treated as afterthoughts.

The program for autistic children is just appalling. The director/principal applies the Kannerian theory of bonding - children with severe autism, many of whom are nonverbal cannot attend the program without a parent. The parent is required to force the child to submit to hugs, which neither party enjoys. Hugs do not cure autism. Many brighter students have reported that teachers blame them for "having problems" and for causing others to have problems as well. There is a gladiatorial feel.

The school is under the auspices of AMIC, Association for Mentally Ill Children which only adds to the stigma many attendees feel. Staff is permitted to act with impunity and the director/principal becomes inordinately involved in the lives of the kids, often causing problems in so doing. This is the last school where you would want your child to attend.

The director/principal refuses to provide parents and adult students no longer in need of the school's services copies of their records. People I know who have worked there over the years have found misdiagnoses; racist terminology such as "colored" being applied to children and a generally closed corporation. Close Quote

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
