Little Britain Elementary School

Summary:

Little Britain Elementary School is a public elementary school located in New Windsor, New York, serving grades 1-5 with a total enrollment of 429 students. The school is part of the Washingtonville Central School District, which is ranked 611 out of 865 school districts in New York and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Little Britain Elementary School has shown mixed performance on state assessments compared to the district and state averages. The school's strengths lie in its strong performance in mathematics, particularly in 3rd and 4th grades, as well as the exceptional performance of its special education students. However, the school's weaknesses are in its relatively lower performance in ELA and science compared to the district and state averages, as well as the lower performance of its white and low-income student subgroups. Nearby schools, such as Willow Avenue Elementary School, have significantly outperformed Little Britain Elementary School across all subject areas and grade levels.

To improve, Little Britain Elementary School could focus on enhancing its ELA and science performance, particularly for its white and low-income student subgroups. The school could also explore ways to increase per-student funding and maintain a stable student-teacher ratio to support student learning. Collaboration with higher-performing nearby schools, such as Willow Avenue Elementary, could provide opportunities for sharing best practices and learning from their success.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Our experience at Little Britain Elementary school was by far the worst of any school that we've enrolled our son into. My husband is in the military and travels a lot, so we inquired about eating lunch with our son and/or visiting his class when my husband returns from his assignments to surprise our son but to check on him as well. Principal Sagrario Rudecindo-O'Neill was very unprofessional and condescending during our one and only telephone conversation. She stated that we could not visit for the SAFETY of the students and kept referring to the FERPA policy. Safety didn't seem to be an issue when several parents were allowed to enter the school and classrooms to make pancakes for the students and doggie treats during the holidays. After speaking with the Asst Superintendent and reading the policy myself, I found out that FERPA has nothing to do with the safety of the students, but was implemented to safeguard the records of students. The woman who stands at the desk during afternoon pick up and gives out visitor passes during the day was extremely rude and inattentive. She would often allow kids to run from the building during dismissal, while their parents had barely started up the walkway to sign them out. Sometimes this was seen during times of heavy traffic.
We never really had an issue with the teacher, but with a class of 25, he couldn't really give our son the attention that we expected. Our son was not excited about going to school or learning and he was often quite bored at this school! We were beyond excited when our son was accepted into an awesome private school and we were able to disenroll him from Little Britain Elementary School. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
