Northeast College Preparatory High School is a public high school serving grades 9-12 in Rochester, NY, part of the Rochester City School District, which is ranked 849 out of 865 districts in New York and has a 0-star rating from SchoolDigger. The school has 778 students.

Northeast College Preparatory High School has consistently ranked among the lowest-performing high schools in New York state, maintaining a 0-star rating from SchoolDigger over the past decade. The school's performance is particularly low for certain student subgroups, ranking 686 out of 690 New York high schools for African American students, 861 out of 865 for Hispanic students, and 1136 out of 1144 for special education students. Proficiency rates on Regents/Common Core exams are significantly below the state and district averages across all subject areas, with only 10.92% proficiency in Regents/Common Core Algebra I, compared to 31.42% statewide and 12.07% in the Rochester City School District. The school has also struggled with high dropout rates, ranging from 4.9% to 22.4%, and extremely high chronic absenteeism, reaching as high as 85% in the 2022-2023 school year. Additionally, the school's four-year graduation rates have been consistently low, ranging from 52.1% to 85.1% over the past few years, well below the state and district averages.

When comparing Northeast College Preparatory High School to other nearby schools, such as Edison Career and Technology High School, another Rochester City School District high school, it becomes clear that Northeast College Preparatory High School is an outlier in terms of performance. The school's location in the low-performing Rochester City School District, as well as the high percentage of students from low-socioeconomic backgrounds and the high proportion of minority students, likely contribute to the school's challenges. Despite the school's consistently low performance, there is little evidence of significant improvement over the past decade, raising serious concerns about the long-term outcomes and opportunities for the students attending the school.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote This school is supposed to be one of the "better" schools in Rochester, NY and in fact it is not. The students are out of control and the "security staff" is more worried about being the students friends than worrying about the safety of the students. The Principal is never seen as she is always in her office & the assistant principals have to much to deal with everyday to worry about the students and their education.

They allow these children to get away with assaulting other students with NO disciplinary actions taken. Believe it or not there are students who actually want to learn and graduate high school and further their education. But when you have misfits running a muck around the school disrupting other students learning, it's by far the hardest thing for a student to do is focus on their studies! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
