Nuasin Next Generation Charter School

Summary:

Nuasin Next Generation Charter School is an alternative public charter school located in the Bronx, New York, serving grades K-12 with a total enrollment of 674 students. The school serves a high-need community, with 92.85% to 95.25% of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch.

Nuasin Next Generation Charter School generally performs better than the New York state average on English Language Arts and Math assessments, with several grade levels exceeding the state proficiency rates. However, the school lags behind the state in some Regents exams, such as Algebra II, Geometry, and U.S. History and Government. The school has also experienced high chronic absenteeism rates, ranging from 0.0% to 91.1% in recent years, which is significantly higher than the state average. Nuasin Next Generation Charter School's per-student spending has steadily increased, from $16,657 in 2020-2021 to $24,757 in 2022-2023, which is higher than the spending of some nearby charter schools, such as Democracy Prep Harlem Charter School and Brilla College Preparatory Charter School.

When compared to nearby charter schools, Nuasin Next Generation Charter School generally performs better on state assessments, particularly in English Language Arts and Math. However, these nearby charter schools often have lower chronic absenteeism rates and higher graduation rates. The school's higher per-student spending and fluctuating student-teacher ratio may indicate a need to evaluate the school's resource allocation and staffing model to ensure optimal student outcomes. Addressing the root causes of chronic absenteeism and strengthening the school's curriculum and instructional practices in subjects like Algebra II, Geometry, and U.S. History and Government should be priorities for Nuasin Next Generation Charter School.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Leadership is horrible, this school and lighthouse charter school organization are setting our kids up for failure. This school is missing a core discipline structure. The leadership and school has a terrible communication. We have to withdraw our kids from the school, when we took them for tutoring at Khan tutorial and our kids performed horrible. The instructor informed up that our performed below regular DOE students. We spoke to the principal and the board members all they care about $$$. Our kids teachers were trying all the best but there is no support from the leadership. So half of the teachers resigned, some even left during school. That's how bad this school is. Please DON'T enroll your child in this horrible school. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
