As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote This school is a very good school with many different talents like Creative Writing, Computer Math, Instrumental Stings/Winds, Drama, Dance, Art, and Vocal. Even though this school may be stressful because of things like I-ready, remote learning, and other things like low standard teachers, yet, this school may be the best school I have ever went to compared to my elementary school. I am a 6th grader and going to 7th grade next year and I can't wait to step into the school again. I am really impressed by going into this school. Close Quote

Open Quote I think it's one of the best middle school in New York Close Quote

by a parent

Open Quote This school is OK and shouldn't attract students as the BEST school in Brooklyn.

1. Administration is not very supportive. Among different administrative issues with them, I had a principal on the phone trying to figure out who was my child, after I complained about a teacher that lets children to spend time in the toilet for almost entire period of class. I learned from my child that boys smoke cigarettes and weed while they are in the bathroom.

Also, there is no clear information on Awards, Clubs, and classes like Regents and requirements for parents. Every parent wants their children to fully participate and enjoy their school years. However, school administration is not effective in making this possible by being unable to disseminate information and communicate with EACH parent of their school. If needed they should go and KNOCK on their door if it takes to inform a parent. And this has been a focus of NYC administration for the last 5 years.

2. Quality of Education. Not every teacher is dedicated to their jobs - TEACHING students REAL content. A lot of TEST concentrated approach. At the end of the day a child can guess "Chinese Exclusion Act" was signed in 1882 (which is a test answer), but when you ask what is this act about they roll their eyes and have no idea nor they even feel bad because they don't know. And this is what bothers me as a parent, no empowerment and encouragement from teachers.

3. School is safe if they eradicate issues with smoking and have tight control on bathroom attendance.

4. I would recommend to connect with non-profit that promote additional writing, history, math, and coding workshops and make it available for students and PARENTS. Parent coordinator together with an outreach person could work on finding useful and attractive workshops and activities from other schools and universities. Constant search for better opportunities for kids will make this leadership and school strong and better. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
