As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote This school is terrible if your child has IEP- this school is very pretentious and all about appearances, but the truth is this school is a joke. There is also a bullying problem here unfortunately from admins and teachers. Close Quote

Open Quote I can't rave enough about the school, curriculum, diversity, and the true care of the staff for the children's wellbeing! I have two children attending the school in 5th and 6th grade. Probably one of the smartest decisions I've made. Close Quote

Open Quote This school, a popular choice throughout Queens, provides a caring, loving, and nurturing environment, with a highly qualified staff that exudes enthusiasm for their work. Teachers stay at this school because they love it as much as what they do, and this really shows. A supportive administration and involved parents help round everything out. While the school has always done well, over the last decade it has invested time and resources to achieve true excellence, reflected in its exceptional performance metrics. Importantly, it helps all students, from incredibly diverse backgrounds, not just to succeed, but to excel, in a way that is also true to themselves. The school has additionally invested in its facilities, installing, for instance, a state-of-the-art outdoor play area. Strong academics based on differentiated learning, allowing everyone to achieve their full potential, is supplemented by a rich array of extracurriculars, including a robotics team, space camp, drama, and a range of stunning music and art programs. A big school with a bigger heart, and a focus on the little details. Close Quote

Open Quote I went to the Louis Armstrong Middle school for 6th, 7th, 8th grade and it was the best school that I ever went to. The teachers are very helpful and they always are there for the students. For more information visit the Louis Armstrong Middle School webpage at www.armstrong227q.com. Close Quote

Open Quote I have to say this school is not what it used to be, classes are over crowded with 30 plus students in each class. There is very little help for the average students, the school focuses on the children 96% average and above to maintain their good ranking. My child had to give up lunch to go up to the teacher during lunch for extra help and instead of getting the help he/she needed by the teacher explaining to my child, the teacher would tell him/her to go over his/her notes. Children can get into music class only if they already know how to play an instrument and the same rule applies to other extra curriculum programs they have. I tried to get my child the much needed help and all I have to say is I ended up paying a tutor so my child would't get left back. It is heartbreaking to see one's child struggle and try his/her best to do good and seek the help he/she needs and not find the needed support. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
