This school consistently ranks among the top elementary schools in the state, with consistently high academic performance that significantly exceeds district and state averages.

Ps 144 Col Jeromus Remsen's academic excellence is evident across all student subgroups, with the school ranking in the top 100-200 in the state for female, male, Hispanic, Asian, white, and special education students. As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Tour this great school and see what it has to offer your child. My son graduated last year and he misses all the love and support, A nurturing enviroment lead by an amazing Principal. The assistant thankfully ( very cold lady) isn't so in charge, Principal Schneider lets it be known it is her school. Teachers care and the main office has very nice ladies. Close Quote

Open Quote Both of my children graduated from this school in the last three years. The principal is the shining star in this School, my children miss her. She is a leader in education and kindness. My children left to two different amazing middle schools. I know they will always be ahead of the game from what they learned here @144 Close Quote

Open Quote All schools in Forest Hills/Rego Park area are academically strong. PS144 is not only academically strong, but it is also special in that it has residencies and programs that other schools don't (residencies in art, dance, theater, puppetry, Guggenheim museum, Queens museum, trout in the classroom, etc, etc).
The PA of 144 is very active, organizing fun events and raising money to make special programs possible.
The con is that PS144 has been increasingly getting overcrowded. Lots of families with kids are moving into the area. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
