Ps 41 Crocheron

Ps 41 Crocheron is an exceptional elementary school located in Bayside, New York, serving students from kindergarten to 5th grade. It is part of the New York City Geographic District #26, which is ranked 182 out of 865 districts in New York and has a 4-star rating from SchoolDigger. Ps 41 Crocheron has consistently been one of the top-performing elementary schools in the state, ranking in the top 3% of New York elementary schools for the past several years.

Ps 41 Crocheron's academic performance is truly impressive, consistently outperforming the district and the state in proficiency rates for English Language Arts (ELA) and Math on the New York State Assessments. For example, in the 2023-2024 school year, 87.32% of 5th-grade students at Ps 41 Crocheron were proficient or better in ELA, compared to 69.18% in the district and 43.68% statewide. The school's student subgroups, including female, male, Asian, and white students, all perform exceptionally well, ranking in the top 5-10% of New York elementary schools in their respective categories. Even the school's English Language Learner (ELL) students perform remarkably well, ranking 6th out of 454 New York elementary schools for ELL students in the 2020-2021 school year.

Despite having a relatively high percentage of students from low socioeconomic backgrounds (46.7% free/reduced lunch recipients in 2022-2023), Ps 41 Crocheron continues to excel academically, ranking in the top 5% of New York elementary schools for low-income students. This is likely due to the school's effective teaching practices, strong leadership, and supportive community. While Ps 41 Crocheron outperforms the nearby schools in the same district, some schools in the neighboring New York City Geographic District #25, such as Ps 130, also demonstrate strong academic performance, suggesting that factors beyond just district boundaries play a significant role in a school's success.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote School is great my son's teacher is wonderful. I have an issue with safety at drop off time anyone can come in and out of the main building. Safety Patrol does not stop anyone.Too many parents, relatives etc wondering building. With all these crazy things happening in the world today I think that they need to really take this serious and actually pay attention to who is coming in and out of the building especially at drop off. I've called a few times now and it seems like this is not a serious matter to them. In September it was great someone actually stood downstairs greeting the kids and the public safety officer would actually stop Adults and ask where they are headed took ID's and made them sign in.If this is not resolved I will have to contact the board of ed and make further complaints. About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
