Norma Adams Clemons Academy

Summary:

Norma Adams Clemons Academy is an elementary school in Brooklyn, New York, serving students from pre-kindergarten to 5th grade. The school's student population is predominantly African American and Hispanic, with a high percentage of economically disadvantaged students.

Despite spending a relatively high amount per student, Norma Adams Clemons Academy consistently ranks in the bottom half of New York elementary schools and significantly underperforms on state assessments in English Language Arts and Math compared to the district and state averages. The school's performance varies across different student subgroups, with African American and male students performing particularly poorly. In contrast, nearby schools like PS 249 Caton (The), PS 92 Adrian Hegeman, and PS 181 have significantly higher academic performance, despite serving similar student populations.

The analysis also reveals that several charter schools in the area, such as Explore Charter School, Central Brooklyn Ascend Charter School, and Flatbush Ascend Charter School, generally outperform Norma Adams Clemons Academy on state assessments. This suggests that the charter school model may be more effective in supporting student achievement in this area. Addressing the school's challenges, such as the high percentage of economically disadvantaged students and potential resource allocation and instructional issues, will be crucial for improving Norma Adams Clemons Academy's performance and outcomes.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote I was a student of PS.6 in the years of 2000-05. I now am a Senior in high school, never been left back & have good grades, I even speak 3 languages not including english an as a product of PS.6 I do not agree with these Biased ratings. Schools have different kids, better communities and more money an these things are something you can't complain about; but I tell you now PS.6 may not be advanced but it is a loving school these teachers do care well the teachers I had which ranged from ms.freedman, ms.retos, R.I.P Mrs.Diane, Mrs.Carrington, Mrs.Pratt & Ms.Allen along with the staff there. I've seen a teacher give a student clothes because she would wear something 3 weeks straight and I believe a underachieved child isn't because of a teacher but the parents, the student an their lifestyle and in closing my name is Carl Cadet from 2005. About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
