Ps 32 Belmont

Summary:

Ps 32 Belmont is an elementary school located in the Bronx, New York, serving 555 students from pre-kindergarten to 5th grade. The school is part of the New York City Geographic District #10, which is ranked 728 out of 866 districts in New York and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Ps 32 Belmont faces significant challenges in improving student academic performance and overall school quality. The school has a predominantly Hispanic student population (78.92%) and a very high percentage of students (96.22%) who qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, indicating a high level of economic disadvantage. Academically, the school's proficiency rates in English Language Arts (ELA) and Math are well below the state and district averages across all grade levels. Despite the relatively high spending per student ($24,382), the school's academic performance remains significantly below expectations. Nearby schools in the same district and other districts, such as Cardinal McCloskey Community Charter School and Bronx Stem And Arts Academy (The), have similar demographic and academic performance profiles, suggesting that the challenges faced by Ps 32 Belmont are not unique to the school.

Ps 32 Belmont's consistent low performance, with a 0 or 1-star rating from SchoolDigger for the past several years, suggests that the school and the broader New York City Geographic District #10 may need to implement more comprehensive and targeted interventions to address the complex needs of the student population. Factors such as teacher quality, curriculum, and school leadership may also play a role in the school's persistent underperformance and should be further examined. Addressing these issues will be crucial for Ps 32 Belmont and other similar schools in the district to provide a high-quality education and better prepare students for future success.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote I wouldn't send my dog to this school. The teachers do NOT care about their kids. A lot of the teachers have no classroom management at all. It's total chaos. The school is like a zoo. Sending my child here was the worst decision that I made in life. Close Quote

Open Quote While this school claims to be the top school in the Bronx, their school leadership is poor. They don't look out for a child's best interests. My child went to this school for a half year and I had to transfer her into Catholic School when a little boy touched her inappropriately. The assistant principal called me in when my daughter cried and refused to go to the class where the boy was in. Even after they changed her class, she didn't feel safe. The assistant principal didn't believe that she was touched and the little boy didn't get any kind of punishment. Even when my daughter named out some of the other little girls he touched. The guidance counselor instead asked if it was possible that she was being touched at home. I finally took her out of the school and but her in Catholic School. She is so much happier. I wish there were safer choices for our children's zone schools. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
