High School Of Hospitality Management

Summary:

High School Of Hospitality Management is a public high school located in New York City, NY that serves grades 9-12 with an enrollment of 217 students. The school is part of the New York City Geographic District #2, which is ranked 335 out of 865 districts in New York and has a 3-star rating from SchoolDigger.

High School Of Hospitality Management has consistently ranked in the bottom 25% of New York high schools over the past 10 years, with a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger, indicating the school is underperforming compared to others in the state. The school's performance is particularly low for English Language Learner (ELL) students, who rank in the bottom 1% of New York high schools, as well as for male students and students with low socioeconomic status. The school's 4-year graduation rate has fluctuated between 70.1% and 85.1% over the past 5 years, below the state average, and its dropout rates have ranged from 3.5% to 10.0% during the same period, also higher than the state average. Additionally, High School Of Hospitality Management has extremely high chronic absenteeism rates, ranging from 34.1% to 73.5% over the past 5 years, significantly higher than the district and state averages.

The other schools located in the same building as Food And Finance High School, Facing History School, Urban Assembly School Of Design And Construction, and Manhattan Bridges High School also perform poorly, with rankings and ratings similar to or slightly better than High School Of Hospitality Management, suggesting the school's challenges may be influenced by factors related to the school building or district, rather than being unique to High School Of Hospitality Management alone. Additionally, the school spends significantly more per student ($22,371 in 2022-2023) compared to the district and state averages, but this higher spending does not appear to translate into better outcomes for students.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
