As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Contrary to many parents moving out of NYC to Suburb, we moved our son from Chappaqua to NYC this year. Apparently we were very concerned with this move, and did in depth research, as we understand for students moving to the City, they will only be assigned to the district schools by the NYC Family Welcome Center.

We read about each of Manhattan's district middle schools, and we really like what we read about JHS 104 Simon Baruch. This decision also drove our choice of condo purchase in Midtown East, so our Son can be assigned to the school.

Now it is one month after school start in Sep, we are super happy about our decision. Compared to Chappqua and Scarsdale (our Son has been student to both middle school there in his previous grades), we felt a great welcome from staff of the school. There are a couple of instances that really wowed us:

-On the 1st day back to school, we introduced our son to the teacher greeting all the 7th grade student at the entrance (Ms. Traversa we later found) and she said hello to Philip, while distributing the Yonder pouch to hundreds of students. Later that day, when I came back in the afternoon to pick up my Son, she saw me and knew the boy's name instantly. I did not know how but she remembered our son after the crazy 1st day back to school. I was accompanied into the building by another teacher and she also knew my son was one of the tall boys in class.

-As a new student, our boy did not get his Metro card but the teacher in charge of that took extra time to get him the card after school.

-As a new student from Chappaqua with great interest and excellent grades in Math, our Son was placed into a math class that was too slow for him. We wrote about it to his grade counselor, his math teacher and Mr. Comparetto in charge of the curriculum, and after a week's consideration, the notice came and he was moved to a new math class. This has been really our top concern for the couple weeks after school starts, as we did not want him to lose interest in his math class.

-After class program: as we were late to the signing up, it took some time for the boy to figure out who to submit the forms to. Once we found it out, Ms. Tejada quickly helped to place him in the after school programs.

Lastly, our Son enjoyed the new school a lot, as the students here are more diverse and communicative compared to his class in the Suburb.

We are now very happy about his moving to NYC and will continue to report back in. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
