Murry Bergtraum High School For Business Careers

Summary:

Murry Bergtraum High School For Business Careers is a public high school in New York City's New York City Geographic District # 2, serving 104 students in grades 9-12. The school has consistently ranked in the bottom quartile of New York high schools over the past decade, with a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Compared to nearby schools in the district, Murry Bergtraum stands out with a higher percentage of economically disadvantaged and minority students, significantly lower proficiency rates on Regents exams, and much higher per-student spending that does not translate to better outcomes. The school's graduation rates range from 75-85%, with high dropout rates of 4.9-10% and chronic absenteeism as high as 60%. Despite small class sizes and high spending, Murry Bergtraum's performance lags far behind the district and state averages.

The persistent low performance at Murry Bergtraum High School For Business Careers suggests systemic challenges that have not been adequately addressed. The disconnect between high spending and poor outcomes raises questions about resource allocation, while the school's unique demographic profile highlights the need for targeted interventions to support its student population. While the nearby schools in the district generally outperform Murry Bergtraum, the school's struggles appear to be specific to its own operations and context.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote I want be clear about this school. Do not, under any circumstances send your kids there and if you are a teacher do not look for employment at that school. You will regret about it for the rest of your life because this school can destroy your career. Students are horrendous and the administrators are mean nasty and helpful at all. They will place all burden you and they will blame you for everything. Every little thing will result as a letter in your file. No matter what you do you will be rated as ineffective. I really hope and keep my finger crossed that this school will be closed foverer. I have never seen such misarable and unhappy teachers in my entire life. Bloomberg destroyed a very good school. In 2009 this school had about 2.500 students and over 100 teachers. Right now it barely has 200 kids and about 37 teachers.
I forgot to mention the support stuff such as guy who makes copies and secretary who is mean and useless often times. Plus securitiies who usually do nothing as well. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
