Michael Inskeep Elementary School

Summary:

Michael Inskeep Elementary School is a public elementary school in Reno, Nevada, serving 490 students in grades PK-5 and part of the Washoe County School District, which is ranked 5th out of 13 districts in the state.

While Michael Inskeep Elementary's overall proficiency rates in Mathematics and Reading are below the Washoe County and Nevada state averages, the school's 3rd-grade performance in these subjects is higher than the district and state. However, the school's 4th and 5th-grade proficiency rates, as well as its Science proficiency, are significantly lower than the averages. The school's statewide ranking has declined in the past year, and it now has a 3-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Compared to nearby schools, Verdi Elementary and Rollan Melton Elementary outperform Michael Inskeep Elementary across all subject areas and grade levels, while Esther Bennett Elementary has lower proficiency rates in most areas. The school's per-student spending and student-teacher ratio are also lower than some of its higher-performing neighbors, which may be contributing factors to its academic challenges.

Open Quote My daughter was put in a higher level reading thanks to last year's testing. She now has to read 2 grade levels above hers. So instead of the fun books kids read she gets to pick from books totally not geared towards her age. Her love for reading is evaporating as now she is forced to read books above her maturity level for a good grade. Way to punish the ones who test high!!! Now she knows if she dumbstruck herself down during test time she can have an easy year next year. This curriculum is a joke. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
