Mack Jerome Middle School

Summary:

Mack Jerome Middle School is a public middle school in Las Vegas, Nevada, serving 1,069 students in grades 6-8. The school is part of the Clark County School District, which is the 7th ranked district out of 13 in the state and is rated 3 stars out of 5 by SchoolDigger.

Despite the school's higher per-student spending, which has increased from $8,183 in 2018-2019 to $11,037 in 2021-2022, Mack Jerome Middle School consistently underperforms the state and district averages in SBAC Mathematics, Reading, and Science proficiency across all grade levels. In 2023-2024, the school's overall Mathematics proficiency was 9.5% compared to the state average of 32.6% and the district average of 30.1%. The school has also consistently ranked in the bottom quarter of Nevada middle schools, with a ranking of 147 out of 153 schools in 2023-2024, and has received 0 or 1 out of 5 stars from SchoolDigger.

Interestingly, the nearby Knudson K O Academy of the Arts and Martin Roy W Middle School, which are both public magnet schools, outperform Mack Jerome Middle School in test scores and school rankings, despite serving similar student demographics. This suggests that additional funding alone may not be enough to improve student performance, and that targeted interventions and support may be necessary to address the unique challenges faced by the school's student population.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote This school has to be the worst school I've ever been involved with. They just assume let your child fail rather than put any extra effort in. These teachers and staff DON"T love their job,it's just a job.My son missed 8 of 16 days and NOT ONE teacher offered make up work. He has missing assignments with F's on his parent link. And their Parentlink participation is a joke. The P.E. teacher went 5 WEEKS without marking anything, then updates that my son has an F. E-mails to the principle go without response. THEY ARE RANKED 75TH OUT OF 78 IN THE STATE!!! PATHETIC! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
