Mojave High School

Summary:

Mojave High School is a public high school in North Las Vegas, Nevada, serving 2,758 students in grades 9-12. The school is part of the Clark County School District, which is ranked 7th out of 13 districts in Nevada and is rated 3 stars out of 5 by SchoolDigger.

Mojave High School consistently ranks in the bottom 10-15% of Nevada high schools, with a ranking between 86-95 out of 96-101 schools in recent years. The school's performance on standardized tests, such as the EOC Science Exam and ACT English, is significantly below the state and district averages. For example, in the 2023-2024 school year, only 5.8% of Mojave High School students were proficient or better in the EOC Science Exam, compared to 19.6% in Clark County and 20.2% in Nevada. The school also spends significantly more per student than the nearby schools, with a per-student spending of $10,048 in the 2021-2022 school year, compared to $9,724 at Cheyenne High School and $6,890 at The Delta Academy J-Senior High School.

Despite the higher per-student spending, Mojave High School's academic performance remains low, suggesting that simply increasing funding may not be the sole solution. The school's higher student-teacher ratio of 26.5 in the 2022-2023 school year, compared to nearby schools with ratios ranging from 5 to 32.4, may be a factor in its academic challenges. Addressing the persistent challenges at Mojave High School will require a comprehensive and targeted approach to improve educational outcomes for the students.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
