King Junior Martin Luther Elementary School

Summary:

King Junior Martin Luther Elementary School is a public elementary school in Las Vegas, Nevada, serving 355 students in grades PK-5. The school is part of the Clark County School District, which is ranked 7th out of 13 districts in the state and has a 3-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Despite the school's high spending per student, which has increased from $9,356 in 2018-2019 to $13,358 in 2021-2022, King Junior Martin Luther Elementary School consistently ranks in the bottom quartile of Nevada elementary schools, ranking 358th out of 377 schools in 2023-2024. The school's proficiency rates in both mathematics and reading are significantly lower than the Clark County and Nevada state averages across all grade levels. For example, in 2023-2024, the school's proficiency rate in mathematics for all grades was 14.2%, compared to 30.1% for Clark County and 32.6% for Nevada.

While the nearby schools, such as Tate Myrtle Elementary School and Heard Lomie G Elementary School, also have high percentages of students from low-income families, they generally outperform King Junior Martin Luther Elementary School in academic proficiency rates. This suggests that the school faces unique challenges in improving student academic outcomes, despite the increased spending per student.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote I once was a student here, and i found this school AMAZING. Even though i'm not in this school anymore, I still appreciate the teachers giving me the education I have today because i'm in all AP classes. I also am very grateful of how supportive they can be when you just feel like no one cares anymore. Thanks M.L.K. Staff love Ya'll. <3 Close Quote

Open Quote I have found this school year 2010-2011 to be the most fruitful for both of my children 1st and 2nd grade. I complement the teachers and their motivation that they give to my children to read and turn in their homework each Friday with their little incentives they give them. It's a team effort and I am very pleased with my children's motivation and school performance this year. Also the concept of having 2 teachers in one classroom, I believe does make a great difference. My second grade son almost made it to the G.A.T.E program and that's speaks tons of the material and the teaching that goes on in the classroom.
I know for a fact that kids will do anything but homework if we let them do so...It's our responsibility us parents to make sure they sit down for those 15-20 min to read and to do homework EVERY DAY; let's not blame our teachers for our faults!
Good luck MLK staff, pls keep encouraging the kids to succeed. Close Quote

Open Quote This school has poor teachings, and is very ghetto, I hate my child has to go to this school. Some of the teachers here have no idea how to teach!! Just because you are a teacher doesn't always mean you can teach. My child scores are low and they have no idea how to help her. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
