Griffith E W Elementary School

Summary:

Griffith E W Elementary School is a public elementary school in Las Vegas, Nevada, serving 588 students in grades PK-5. The school is part of the Clark County School District, which is ranked 7th out of 13 districts in the state and has a 3-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Despite the school's high poverty rates, with 100% of students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch, Griffith E W Elementary consistently underperforms compared to the district and state averages in both mathematics and reading proficiency. In the 2023-2024 school year, the school's mathematics proficiency rate was 19.3%, compared to 30.1% for Clark County and 32.6% for the state, while its reading proficiency rate was 22.2%, compared to 39.3% for Clark County and 41.3% for the state. The school's low academic performance is reflected in its 1-star rating and ranking in the bottom quartile of Nevada elementary schools.

When comparing Griffith E W Elementary to nearby schools, such as Culley Paul E Elementary, which is just 1.58 miles away, it becomes clear that the school's academic performance is significantly lower across all grade levels and subject areas. This suggests that there may be opportunities for Griffith E W Elementary to implement effective strategies and practices to improve student outcomes, similar to the success seen at the nearby Sage Collegiate Public Charter School.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote This school is the worst I've seen. From the demographics to the test scores to communication with the parents, it's an embarrassment to the entire city. Whatever they did or whoever was in charge from 2009-2010 was the only chance this school had for success. Since then, it's painfully obvious it's riddled with failure. And because of this, 2 out of my 3 children have been held back a year. Their mother and I are separated, not legally and not divorced. Simply two different households. I receive ZERO communication unless I push for it. I receive NO report cards, courtesy calls or emails regarding absences and poor grades/behavior and have basically been denied all of my rights as a father with 100 percent custody of my kids. I don't even get emails or copies of their grades. The campus portal is crap and is never updated in a timely manner. I have NEVER been informed of parent/teacher conferences or issues with my children and when I ask where their report cards are or any important notifications for the parents, I get told every time that they SEND THE PAPERS HOME WITH THE KIDS!!! Even in the 1980s the schools were smart enough to mail them to ensure they got to the parents. I get treated like a second-rate citizen any time I go in there asking for information (I have to go in person due to them refusing to give out information over the phone which I completely understand) and they contact my ex-wife's BOYFRIEND of 2 years before me on ANYTHING! I'm a decorated combat veteran, soon to be a college graduate and a productive member of society. I've been awarded TWICE by Mr. Oscar Goodman for service to this community and I push my children to succeed. Their mother is the opposite, yet she gets all the respect and communication and I get NOTHING. It's pathetic and just plain wrong. I would not only NOT recommend this school to ANY parent, but I would recommend the school district TERMINATE the employment of most of the faculty and start over. It's the only chance they have for success. The numbers don't lie. This school cares very little for the success of it's students. It's an embarrassment. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
