Open Quote St. Joseph's Grade School is one of the most outdated schoools in the Toms River District. The school has not seen any type of renovation in decades and still looks like it did in the 60's. There is a minimal amount of technology available to the students compared to other Catholic Schools within the state of New Jersey. The support staff is normally unprofessional, including the current Principle who has no "tact" on handling children's issues such as bullying. The children are allowed a total of 10-15 mins of recess each day which is why today's children suffer from obesity - no exercise, not to mention no allocated outside grounds for recess to be held. The After Care program is substandard and has no structure while not allowing a scheduled time for the children to do their homework in an atmosphere to allow concentration. The After Care program mixes children of all grades to gather topgether in the lunch room and basically cause havoc with a minimal amount of adult supervision. Very disappointed considering the tuition is the same as other Catholic Schools that offer much more professionalism, structure, discipline, and amenities. Close Quote

Open Quote St. Joe's in Toms River is a great school. There is alot of sense of community and the teachers do their best to provide a wonderful learning environment. Their biggest down side is the principal. Mrs. Williams can be very unprofessional, a liar, and can be a bully to the children and the parents. Close Quote

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
