Robert Fulton Elementary School

Summary:

Robert Fulton Elementary School is a public school in North Bergen, New Jersey, serving 880 students in grades 1-8. The school is part of the North Bergen School District, which is ranked 512 out of 615 districts in the state and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Robert Fulton has a unique student population, with a significantly higher percentage of Hispanic students (86.25%) compared to the state average for elementary schools (27.5%). The school's academic performance is mixed, with stronger proficiency rates in English Language Arts (ELA), particularly in the upper grades, but lower proficiency in math and science compared to the district and state averages. Interestingly, the school's Hispanic and English Language Learner (ELL) students perform better than the state averages for those subgroups, while the White and Special Education students perform worse. The school's chronic absenteeism rate has also increased in recent years, which may be a contributing factor to its academic outcomes.

When compared to nearby schools, Robert Fulton's ELA performance is generally stronger than the West New York School District schools, but lower than the Cliffside Park School #5. The school's high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch (52.39%) suggests it serves a relatively disadvantaged population, which may impact its academic performance. Overall, Robert Fulton Elementary School has unique strengths and challenges that warrant further investigation and targeted interventions to support its diverse student population.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote As a parent of two children that go to Robert Fulton Elementary School, I have to say that I'm very pleased.

Open Quote I have to say as an adult I am absolutely disgusted with this school. The way in which they treat students, specifically first graders is truly sad. I know from kindergarten to 1 st grade of course is a transition which differs slightly due to the increased structure of education and classroom rules however, i believe the teachers at this school are not qualified to handle such a task. Their staff always seems to be bitter and very dismissive in order to quickly get rid of you and continue on to something else. My child has been miserable since week one in this school, he literally wakes up in the mornings and begs not to go to school. He used to love school! Yet now, he feels as if he is being punished every day. Teachers you need to better educate yourselves with regards to children and their needs. They are not robots you can yell at constantly for the slightest things. I am currently seeking approval from the board of education to transfer my child. I am disgusted, disappointed, displeased, appalled, and insulted by such staff and educators. You all destroyed my son's first year experience in elementary school. You have tainted him and have thought it is ok because "he is a child with a different perspective". I hope your school gets better staff members with honestly better attitudes, knowledge, experience, and of course manners. Your first grade teachers act more like 5 year olds with their ridiculous behaviors.
- I WILL NOT REMOVE THIS Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
