The school's academic performance, as measured by NJSLA test scores, is mixed, with strong performance in certain grade levels and subjects, such as 5th and 6th grade English Language Arts, but struggles in others, particularly in Mathematics. For example, in 2022-2023, only 19.2% of 6th graders and 16.7% of 7th graders were proficient or better in Mathematics, significantly below the state averages.

Montague Township School's statewide ranking has steadily declined over the past several years, from a high of 299 out of 1,346 elementary schools in 2015-2016 to 654 out of 1,342 in 2022-2023. The school also has a relatively high percentage of students from low-socioeconomic backgrounds, with 32.26% of students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch in 2022-2023, higher than many of the surrounding schools like Hamburg School and Frankford Township School. These factors, combined with the school's high rates of chronic absenteeism, suggest that Montague Township School may need to focus on targeted interventions and support to improve student outcomes.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote While the some the teachers are great individually, the staff are difficult to deal with and inaccurate with respect to recording day to day occurrences (poor attention to detail). As this doesn't seem very important, it becomes vital since the school relies on recorded data of this type for future use. The school nurse is careless as well. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
