Milford Public School

Summary:

Milford Public School is a small elementary school serving grades PK-5 in the town of Milford, New Jersey, with a student population of around 60 students. Despite its small size, the school stands out for its exceptional academic performance and unique student demographics compared to nearby schools.

Milford Public School students excel on state assessments, with 3rd-grade students scoring an impressive 90.9% proficient or better in English Language Arts and 54.6% in Mathematics - significantly higher than the state averages. The school also has relatively low chronic absenteeism rates and a very low student-teacher ratio, ranging from 5.5 to 7.9 over the past few years. However, the school's racial makeup is less diverse than some of the surrounding schools, with 80-84% of students identifying as white.

Compared to nearby schools like Alpha Borough School, Franklin Township School, and Union Township Elementary School, Milford Public School stands out for its consistently high academic performance and low student-teacher ratio. However, the school's enrollment has declined in recent years, and its statewide ranking has fluctuated, suggesting that factors beyond just test scores may be influencing the school's overall performance and standing.

Open Quote School is severely run down and they currently don't have enough students to have a kindergarten class. rumor has it they want to bring the FOUR students back -- that they sent to Frenchtown this year -- to have a merged K/1 class with a total of 7 children in total. THIS IS A HORRIBLE DECISION that was made by the school and the school board stating it is the best interest of the kids! Which is totally NOT true! It is apparent they are doing this to save a teachers job! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
