As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Expect your child’s love of learning to quickly evaporate attending the Mendham township middle school. Unfortunately there are parents who don’t care how stressed there children due to the overwhelming amount of utterly pointless schoolwork. There is too much focus on testing & not enough on how a student learns & what motivates students internally. The practice for the yearly school musical is from 5:30-8:30pm 3 days a week. Somehow the school administration is not concerned how sleep deprivation may disrupt a student’s quality of life or schoolwork. The lack of pragmatic sensibility throughout the middle school administration is astounding. Long story short — do your child a favor & don’t send them here . Close Quote

Open Quote Responding to another parent's comments about the middle school musical. The musical is run by the HSA, not the middle school. Like it or not, the musical is a pay to play. If you're not giving money to the HSA or Darlene has a grudge against you or your child, he's not getting a significant part in the musical even if he's Christian Bale or Meryl Streep. Close Quote

Open Quote The school places a premium on quantity over quality, especially with math homework and night writes. One math teacher routinely assigns hours of iExcel homework rather than teach the kids math. The grammar teachers are mediocre to poor. Students report the teachers ignoring them in class while they play on their smart phones.

The school also has a bit of a social hierarchy. Some of the more popular kids form "clicks" and bully the less popular kids. The administration reinforces and enables this behavior by making the popular kids "peer leaders" and passing over the less popular kids. Casting for the HSA school musical tends to favor kids whose parents know the directors or have connections. Having seen first hand the auditions of many students and the performances at the end of the year, I can confidently say that casting is NOT based on the most talented kids. Ditto with the sports program. Kids who are really, really talented end up not making the team. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
