Roosevelt School

Summary:

Roosevelt School is an elementary school located in Lyndhurst, New Jersey, serving grades 3-5 with a total enrollment of 315 students. The school is part of the Lyndhurst Public School District, which is ranked 362 out of 615 districts in New Jersey and has a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger.

While Roosevelt School's overall performance is average, it has some unique characteristics. The school has a higher percentage of White students (60%) compared to the surrounding schools, which have more diverse student populations. Its test scores are generally lower than the state averages, but often higher than the Lyndhurst Public School District averages. For example, in 2022-2023, Roosevelt School's 5th-grade English Language Arts proficiency rate was 62%, compared to the district's 68.9% and the state's 53.2%. Additionally, the school has seen a steady increase in chronic absenteeism, from 5.4% in 2016-2017 to 11.5% in 2021-2022, which is higher than the state average.

Interestingly, Roosevelt School performs better in certain subgroups, such as its Hispanic students and special education students, who rank higher than the state averages for those subgroups. However, the school's spending per student ($6,715 in 2018-2019) is lower than the surrounding schools, which may contribute to its relatively lower performance compared to the district and state. When compared to nearby schools, the Washington School in the neighboring Nutley Public School District stands out, with a 4-star rating and higher test scores than the Lyndhurst schools.

Open Quote This school is awesome. The teachers are fun and cool but they get the job done. You learn something everyday an hve fun doing it. they are only hard on you if you dont listen. If you just act right you'll be great. evry year the sixth graders go on a three day camping trip. In 8th you hve a lot of awsome fieldtrips. (if ur good) And, there is always a district wide walk a thon to help certain fundraisers. such as supporting diabetes, cancer and other causes. The only thing id complain about is the people. Its mainly whites-- italians to be specific. Im not trying to but racist but they can really get at you sometimes. Make sure you get involved with the right people. Thers like 20 blacks and 30 hispanics. u get used to it. Ive gone since 1st grade all through to 8th. im graduating this year. Im really excited to graduate with the people ive known all my life. If you go to roosevelt i can almost garentee ull hve the time of your life! :) Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
