Summary:

Menlo Park Elementary School is a public elementary school in Edison, New Jersey, serving 825 students in grades K-5. The school is part of the Edison Township School District, which is ranked 163 out of 615 districts in the state and rated 4 out of 5 stars by SchoolDigger.

Menlo Park Elementary School stands out for its exceptional academic performance, with consistently high rankings among the top elementary schools in New Jersey over the past 10 years. The school's student population is notably diverse, with a significantly higher percentage of Asian students (79.27%) compared to the surrounding schools and the state average. Despite this, Menlo Park Elementary School performs well for all racial subgroups, including Hispanic and White students, indicating its ability to provide a quality education to a diverse student population. The school also has a relatively low chronic absenteeism rate, ranging from 1.3% to 8.6% over the past few years, which is lower than the surrounding schools and the state average.

Compared to nearby schools, such as James Madison Intermediate School, Menlo Park Terrace Elementary School, and Mildred B. Moss Elementary School, Menlo Park Elementary School outperforms many of them, particularly in academic achievement on NJSLA assessments. This suggests that the school may have additional resources, teaching strategies, or other factors that contribute to its higher performance. Additionally, the school has a lower percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch (10.34% to 18.3%) compared to the surrounding schools, indicating a lower proportion of students from low-socioeconomic backgrounds, which may also contribute to its academic success.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote I was in Menlo Park Elementary school from kindergarten to fifth grade. I had lots of fun there, and made a whole bunch of good friends. Everyone there was either extremely smart or just above average. I had great experiences, teachers, and fun in this school. I was actually bored at home and wanted to go to school because it was so exciting to spend time with my close friends. I will never forget this awesome school that I was in. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
