Pine Tree Elementary School

Summary:

Pine Tree Elementary School is a public elementary school located in Center Conway, New Hampshire, serving 221 students in grades K-6 as part of the Conway School District. However, the school has consistently underperformed compared to state and district averages, with concerning academic trends and challenges that raise questions about its ability to provide a high-quality education for its students.

Pine Tree Elementary School's academic performance is particularly troubling, with only 28% of students proficient or better in mathematics and 34% proficient in reading, significantly lower than the state (42% and 52%) and district (35% and 51%) averages. The school's statewide ranking has also declined, dropping from 115 out of 231 New Hampshire elementary schools in 2018-2019 to 207 out of 237 in 2022-2023, placing it in the bottom quartile. This underperformance is especially pronounced for certain student subgroups, such as female students and white students, who rank 170th and 208th, respectively, out of all New Hampshire elementary schools.

The data reveals a stark contrast between Pine Tree Elementary School and its neighboring schools within the Conway School District. For instance, John H. Fuller School, located just 5.87 miles away, outperformed Pine Tree Elementary School across all academic measures, with significantly higher proficiency rates in mathematics, reading, and science. This comparison highlights the need for Pine Tree Elementary School to explore and implement the best practices of its higher-performing counterparts to address its academic challenges and provide a more equitable education for its students.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote We could not be more pleased with Pine Tree. We have two children there, and all the staff, principal, and teachers are amazing. Our children love to go to school every day.
The school and PTA do a great job encouraging a community feel and fun, positive environment. "Safe, respectful, and responsible" is the school motto, and they live it every day. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
