Adams Elementary School

Summary:

Adams Elementary School is a public elementary school in Lincoln, Nebraska, serving 762 students in grades PK-5. The school is part of the Lincoln Public Schools district, which is ranked 138 out of 212 districts in the state.

Adams Elementary consistently outperforms the district and state in academic assessments, with 89% of 3rd graders proficient or better in English Language Arts, compared to 62% for the district and 63% for the state. The school has been ranked among the top 20 elementary schools in Nebraska for several years, placing it in the top 3% statewide. However, Adams has a relatively homogeneous student population, with 75.98% of students identifying as White, and a low percentage (17.19%) of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, which is significantly lower than some nearby schools like Saratoga Elementary (70%) and Calvert Elementary (57.37%).

The stark differences in academic performance and student demographics between Adams Elementary and nearby schools like Saratoga and Calvert may raise concerns about equity and access to high-quality education within the Lincoln Public Schools district. While Adams Elementary is an exceptional educational institution, further investigation would be needed to understand the underlying factors contributing to these disparities and ensure that all students in the district have access to the same opportunities for success.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Adams Elementary has extremely poor communication skills and they dropped a special needs student unexpectedly. Jumping through hoops to get him re-instated and dealing with the Secretary demanding new paperwork. The principal avoids basic questions when asked. Huge disappointment. Wish I had more options. Trying to make the best of a bad situation at this school. Hopefully there will be some turnover so new people can help improve the administrative staff. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
