As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote We had good and bad experiences at GHE. The K-2 experience was wonderful. With a teacher, an assistant teacher, and a smaller class size, any disruptions in the classroom are manageable. In the upper elementary grades, the large class sizes and the loss of the assistant teachers make for highly disruptive classes. The principal is capable, kind and seems to care about the kids, but we found those parents "in the know" seem to have their children placed with the better teachers. At the end of the school year, write a letter to the principal indicating the qualities you'd like in a teacher for your child for the next year. If you are new to the school and don't know who the better teachers are - find out which teachers the PTA officers' kids have. There are some highly competent teachers at GHE, some teachers who are going through the motions, and a few who simply should leave teaching. The PTA is strong at this school and many parents volunteer.

If your child is highly motivated, have them tutored at least a year ahead of the current year in math and language arts. This will best prepare them for the COG AT and ITBS so they will get the test scores required for AG placement. There are some highly motivated kids who missed out on enrichment because they didn't get the test scores required for AG placement. This is especially important in the upper elementary grades because a strong AG placement will make advanced courses available to your child in middle school and ultimately high school.

The more assertive, even downright aggressive kids seem to do best at this school because of the sheer number of kids in the classroom. Most teachers do their best, but it appears the teachers are required to handle disruptive kids in the classroom, rather than send them to the office or to detention. I'm not sure if this is county- wide or just at GHE. We have two children at this school - the assertive child is happy and excelling and ready for middle school. The quiet, kind child is doing well academically but having difficulty being "heard" at GHE. Close Quote

Open Quote The Principle back 2006 is a great one, but some of the teachers are bad, glad they are all gone from that school now. I knew it those teachers should not get that job at the first place. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
