T C Henderson

Summary:

T C Henderson is a small elementary school in Lake Toxaway, North Carolina, serving 125 students in grades PK-5 as part of the Transylvania County Schools district.

T C Henderson stands out for its strong academic performance, particularly in mathematics, where its 3rd grade proficiency rates exceed the district and state averages. Despite having a high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch (71.2%), the school maintains a low student-teacher ratio and spends more per student than nearby schools. However, the school's student population is predominantly white, which is not reflective of the greater racial diversity in the surrounding area. While T C Henderson has consistently earned high rankings among North Carolina elementary schools, its statewide rank has declined in recent years, warranting further investigation.

Compared to other schools in the Transylvania County Schools district, T C Henderson generally outperforms its peers in test scores. But Brevard Academy, a public charter school outside the district, also demonstrates impressive academic results across grade levels. Overall, T C Henderson is a high-performing school that effectively supports its economically disadvantaged student population, though its lack of racial diversity and declining statewide ranking are areas that may require attention.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote TC Henderson is hands down the best school in Transylvania county. The staff is more like family. We recently had to move districts and I can tell you that no other school will make you feel the way this one does. We miss TC so much. They were our family for so long. Went above and beyond to help all 3 of my children in anyway they could. Mr.Chapman is the most amazing principle and the rest of the staff welcome you with open arms. My kids did so well there. About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
