Eastover Elementary

Summary:

Eastover Elementary is a public elementary school in Charlotte, North Carolina, serving 347 students from kindergarten to 5th grade. This high-performing school consistently ranks among the top 15% of North Carolina elementary schools, with students significantly outperforming their peers in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools district and across the state on standardized tests.

Eastover Elementary's academic excellence is particularly noteworthy in mathematics, where 3rd-grade proficiency rates exceed 80%, compared to around 60% for the district and state. The school's performance is also strong for its White and Gifted and Talented student subgroups, which rank in the top 10-15% of North Carolina elementary schools. This success may be attributed to the school's relatively higher socioeconomic status, as indicated by a lower percentage of students eligible for free or reduced-price lunch, as well as its favorable student-teacher ratio and higher per-student spending compared to the district and state averages.

When compared to nearby schools, such as Cotswold Elementary, Dilworth Elementary School Latta Campus, and Park Road Montessori, Eastover Elementary's academic performance stands out as significantly stronger, suggesting that factors beyond just district-level policies and resources may contribute to the disparities in student outcomes across the region.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote The staff is severely incompetent and the principal has a highly inflated ego. If your child does not fit the socio-economic status of the neighborhood or has any special needs, I would strongly recommend finding a charter or private school. My child entered this school above grade level and with very positive accolades from the previous school. My child fell significantly behind academically, socially and emotionally. The staff treats certain students unfairly and falsely documents incidents to cover themselves (this includes leaving marks on your child and improper use of restraints). Do not waste your time and energy with this school. The damage the staff has caused my child has cost us thousands of dollars in therapy and more hours away from work than we can count. As parents, we could not have been more involved and responsive. They are not equipped to handle all children. Another SAD CMS school! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
