As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote I have been an employee at Edneyville Elementary school for 20 years in a non-educational position but I have contact daily with all students and all Teachers, I have read reviews from parents that were very positive and some very not so positive. what I have seen happen over the past several years is the budget cuts taking the assistants from the classrooms state mandates on what the students must learn putting more on the Teachers who make less than a used car salesman. I see parents who come to the school in support of their children's education and I see more that their parents never meet or speak to their children's teachers. I see children who their parents never look in their child's book bag, never sign and return needed forms, I see children who are sick and parents can never be located to come pick up their child, I see parents who can not accept responsibility for the behavior problems of their children. I also see parents photos on Blue Ridge now in the jailbird section for abuse, drugs, and non-support of their children. I see teachers working hard to try to educate these children while dealing with their emotional problems that come from their home environment. I can say this we have educated many of the children of the Henderson County board of education and many other students who are currently or have been North Carolina scholars. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree, you get out what you put in. I have seen the loss of some very good teachers due to various reasons. we have lost great people due to cut backs and retirement and death. I do know we are not perfect, we have room for improvement. I also know it takes family involvement to make our school once again a school of distinction. when you see parents drive new cars kids wear name brand clothing buying snacks daily while receiving free/reduced meals and children who pay full/reduced prices wearing older clothing parents driving older cars never getting extras what message are we sending our children. and yes parents your children tell the other children if they are free reduced or full pay. this information is not available to teachers or any staff only communicated through confidential communication to parents from child nutrition office located at the county office. Instead of complaints how about try involvement your kids are only little once help us raise our future leaders, lets try using constructive criticism and see more positive results. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
