Gibsonville Elementary

Summary:

Gibsonville Elementary is a public elementary school serving 564 students in grades PK-5 in Gibsonville, North Carolina, which is part of the Guilford County Schools district. While the school has seen a decline in its statewide ranking in recent years, it offers some unique strengths and challenges that are worth exploring.

Academically, Gibsonville Elementary has struggled, with proficiency rates in mathematics, reading, and science generally below the Guilford County and North Carolina averages. However, the school has shown particular strength in 5th grade science, where its proficiency rate has consistently exceeded the district and state averages. Additionally, the school's Hispanic students have performed exceptionally well, ranking as high as 61 out of 843 North Carolina elementary schools in 2020-2021, while its special education and multi-racial student populations have struggled, ranking in the bottom 10% of the state.

Interestingly, Gibsonville Elementary has a relatively low student-teacher ratio and higher per-student spending compared to nearby schools in the Alamance-Burlington district, which may contribute to its resource advantages. However, the school's overall performance continues to decline, and addressing the significant disparities in student subgroup performance will be crucial for improving outcomes. By learning from the successes of higher-performing schools in the region, such as McLeansville Elementary and Edwin M Holt Elementary, Gibsonville Elementary may be able to develop targeted strategies to better serve its diverse student population.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote We have an 8yr old that attends Gibsonville Elementary School. When we mentioned selling our home and relocating he Broke Down into a tantrum like fit. Crying and begging us not to move. When asked why, he responded because he loves his school and friends and All his teachers! Now, we weren't planning on moving out of the schools district but just needing a bigger home. My wife served 2 years on the PTA Board and she got to know the ins and outs of the system there. She agrees EVEY school has their issues but overall She didn't want our child going ANYWHERE else unless it was a private school or a Charter school. That said, the parents, the facility, and most of all the staff at Gibsonville Elementary are the Best! When we are out and about and encounter a Past teacher of our child...he runs to hug them and "catch up" as he calls it. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
