Claxton Elementary

Summary:

Claxton Elementary is a public elementary school in Greensboro, North Carolina, serving around 490 students from pre-kindergarten to 5th grade. The school consistently outperforms the Guilford County Schools district and the state of North Carolina in standardized test scores across various subjects and grade levels, with particularly strong performance in Mathematics and Reading.

Claxton Elementary has a relatively diverse student population, with 42.45% White, 31.02% African American, 12.24% Hispanic, and 7.35% Asian students. This diversity is higher than some nearby schools, such as James Y. Joyner Elementary and Sternberger Elementary. Additionally, Claxton Elementary serves a more economically diverse student population, with 51.63% of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, compared to lower percentages at nearby schools like General Greene Elementary and Sternberger Elementary.

While Claxton Elementary consistently ranks in the top half of North Carolina elementary schools and earns 3-4 stars from SchoolDigger, nearby magnet schools like General Greene Elementary and Brooks Global Elementary tend to outperform Claxton in academic measures, particularly in Mathematics and Reading. This may be due to the magnet schools serving a more affluent student population.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote I had heard good things about this school, but was extremely disappointed in how disorganized they were and how rude the front office was. When I called inquiring about information, then evaded my questions. Since this situation had to do with my child's safety, I decided to move her to another school. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
