Jay M Robinson High has a diverse student population, with a racial makeup of 36.2% White, 30.19% African American, 25.09% Hispanic, and smaller percentages of other races. The school's statewide ranking has also declined over the years, from 239 out of 531 high schools in 2014-2015 to 416 out of 640 in 2023-2024, placing it in the bottom half of high schools in North Carolina.

The school also has a relatively high percentage of free and reduced-price lunch recipients, ranging from 26.99% to 49.63%, suggesting a higher proportion of students from low-income families, which may contribute to the school's academic challenges. Additionally, the school's student-teacher ratio has increased from 15.3 in 2020-2021 to 19.4 in 2022-2023, which is higher than the nearby schools and may impact the quality of instruction and student support.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Robinson was the top HS years ago. It is still tops imo. My neice will graduate from Robinson in 2031!! The area that RHS is in will be getting a new state of the art feeder Middle School next year. Housing prices in the area have increased by as much as 120 over the past 16months. J.M Robinson High School is set to rise to the top once again in Cabarrus County!! Close Quote

Open Quote They keep bringing one incompetent principle after another. Maybe because the large number of kids who disrespect the rules and the teachers contribute to more rules which are applied with the double standards, which in turn chocks the life out of good students, which leads to new principles who think they can manage with more strict rules without dialogues with teachers, students and parents. About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
