Senatobia High School

Summary:

Senatobia High School is a public high school serving grades 9-12 in Senatobia, Mississippi, with a student population of 441. The school is part of the Senatobia Municipal School District, which is ranked 57 out of 130 districts in the state and has a 3-star rating.

Academically, Senatobia High School faces some challenges. Its test scores, as measured by the MAAP (Mississippi Academic Assessment Program), are generally lower than the state averages across various subjects and grade levels. For example, in the 2023-2024 school year, the school's proficiency rates were 59.7% in Algebra I, 42.1% in English II, 62.1% in Biology, and 74.2% in U.S. History, compared to the state averages of 67.4%, 46.2%, 60.6%, and 70.8%, respectively. The school's statewide ranking has fluctuated over the years, ranging from a high of 42nd out of 236 Mississippi high schools in 2013-2014 to a low of 121st out of 228 in the current 2023-2024 school year, placing it below the state average.

Senatobia High School also has a high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, consistently above 99% in recent years, indicating a high level of economic disadvantage among the student population. When compared to nearby schools, such as Lewisburg High School and Hernando High School, both part of the Desoto County School District, Senatobia High School is underperforming academically. Addressing the needs of the economically disadvantaged student population and improving instructional practices could be crucial for the school's future success.

Open Quote I am only giving it one star, because if there were negative stars, I would click as many as possible. This school has very poor administration and little supervision, everything is a joke to them. The Elementary is exceptional, but the Junior High and High School, awful. If you can afford Magnolia Heights, you are way better off. It's worth it! Or you are better off going to Gateway. Do your children a huge favor and beware of this school. Do your research! About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
