Ravenwood Elementary

Summary:

Ravenwood Elementary is a public elementary school in Kansas City, Missouri, serving 319 students in grades K-5. The school is part of the North Kansas City 74 school district, which is ranked 120 out of 376 districts in Missouri and has a 3-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Ravenwood Elementary has a more diverse student population compared to some nearby schools, with a higher percentage of Hispanic (18.5%) and two or more races (12.54%) students. However, the school's academic performance, as measured by MAP test scores, is generally lower than the district and state averages, particularly in mathematics. For example, in 2022-2023, the percentage of 3rd-grade students proficient or better in MAP Mathematics was 43.3% at Ravenwood, compared to 47.5% for the North Kansas City 74 district and 41.1% for the state of Missouri. The school also has a relatively high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, ranging from 49.31% to 57.56% over the past three school years.

Ravenwood Elementary's statewide ranking has declined over the past several years, from a high of 131 out of 1,058 Missouri elementary schools in 2014-2015 to 416 out of 898 in 2022-2023. This suggests that the school's performance has not kept pace with other schools in the state, despite increased spending per student. The school's performance for specific student subgroups, such as Hispanic students and students from low-socioeconomic backgrounds, is generally lower than the overall school performance. Compared to nearby schools like Chapel Hill Elementary and Maplewood Elementary, Ravenwood Elementary's performance is generally lower, but it performs better than some other nearby schools, such as Winnwood Elementary.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote I highly recommend Ravenwood. The principal, Dr. Amy Casey, is amazing women. It must be stressful to be the principle, but she doesn’t show it. She tries to remember each child’s name and shows each child respect. ”

The school has done well with the stress of Covid. Even with the children’s learning being spilt between traditional and online, I believe everyone at Ravenwood, instructors and even down to the custodian department, have done a fantastic job to include each child in every aspect of learning and each staff member have nurtured each child.

My child goes to the Adventure Club program and my child loves the instructors. Just because it says our school is rank 535th doesn’t mean the school is bad and it sure shouldn’t be ranked so low.

This school is amazing. The diversity is lacking, but that seems to be common if you go north of the river in the Kansas City MO metro. Our family is multiracial, from first-hand experience/knowledge that has NEVER been an issue. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
