Ravenwood Elementary

Summary:

Ravenwood Elementary is a public elementary school in Kansas City, Missouri, serving students from kindergarten to 5th grade. The school is part of the North Kansas City 74 school district, which is ranked 126 out of 386 districts in Missouri.

While Ravenwood Elementary has seen fluctuations in its statewide ranking over the years, its overall performance has been a concern. The school's student proficiency rates on the Missouri Assessment Program (MAP) tests are generally lower than the district and state averages in both Mathematics and English Language Arts. Additionally, Ravenwood has consistently higher chronic absenteeism rates compared to the state average, which can negatively impact student learning. However, the school's performance for students from low socioeconomic backgrounds is relatively strong, with Ravenwood ranking 123 out of 625 Missouri elementary schools in the 2023-2024 school year.

Interestingly, Ravenwood Elementary's performance is generally lower than that of nearby schools within the North Kansas City 74 district, such as Chapel Hill Elementary and Maplewood Elementary, which have higher student proficiency rates and statewide rankings. The high chronic absenteeism rate and the school's relatively high percentage of students from low socioeconomic backgrounds may be contributing factors to Ravenwood's lower academic performance, though the school's strong performance for this subgroup suggests opportunities for improvement with the right strategies and support.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote I highly recommend Ravenwood. The principal, Dr. Amy Casey, is amazing women. It must be stressful to be the principle, but she doesn’t show it. She tries to remember each child’s name and shows each child respect. ”

The school has done well with the stress of Covid. Even with the children’s learning being spilt between traditional and online, I believe everyone at Ravenwood, instructors and even down to the custodian department, have done a fantastic job to include each child in every aspect of learning and each staff member have nurtured each child.

My child goes to the Adventure Club program and my child loves the instructors. Just because it says our school is rank 535th doesn’t mean the school is bad and it sure shouldn’t be ranked so low.

This school is amazing. The diversity is lacking, but that seems to be common if you go north of the river in the Kansas City MO metro. Our family is multiracial, from first-hand experience/knowledge that has NEVER been an issue. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
