Summary:

Crestview Elementary is a public elementary school in Kansas City, Missouri, serving 435 students in grades K-5. The school is part of the North Kansas City 74 school district, which is ranked 126 out of 386 districts in the state.

Crestview Elementary has faced significant challenges in recent years, with its statewide ranking fluctuating from 237 out of 1,032 Missouri elementary schools in 2016-2017 to 916 out of 1,089 in 2013-2014. In the most recent school year, the school ranked 686 out of 906 and received a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger. The school also has high chronic absenteeism rates, ranging from 18.5% to 27.0%, which is significantly higher than the state average.

While Crestview Elementary's performance is generally lower than nearby schools within the North Kansas City 74 district, such as Meadowbrook Elementary, Oakwood Manor Elementary, and Briarcliff Elementary, it outperforms some other nearby schools, such as Winnwood Elementary. Despite increased per-student spending and a relatively low student-teacher ratio, Crestview Elementary's academic outcomes have not shown substantial improvement, indicating that factors beyond just funding may be contributing to the school's challenges.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote I love Crestview! I have a son there and we couldn't be happier with the staff and leadership. We are part of a pilot program that is trying out year-round school and we just finished our first summer. It went great; the kids liked it, we liked it and it shows in how prepared the kids are when the rest of the district began the new school year. There's no fall-off, no catching up and the kids are happier. The teachers believe in the program and are eager to see it prosper.
Mr. Wallace is an example of how a principal is supposed to be. He's dedicated, creative, optimistic and forward thinking. He's a constant presence in and around the school, he personally makes home visits, knows every kid by name and is always supportive and encouraging.
The Crestview boundaries include areas where dozens of different nationalities make their homes. I'm not exactly positive but there are approximately 30 different nationalities and languages at Crestview. So there's lots of color, culture, traditions and history in each and every class. I am certain that this is what it will take to make our country succeed in the future, an understanding and acceptance of all races, creeds and colors.
There are all income levels from low to high and there is a definite lack of empty materialism among the kids, there's not really that tedious, "Jimmy has this and I want it or everyone else has blah blah and I don't" My son is getting a priceless lesson in not needing to have every toy, every gadget or every brand to be happy.
Naturally there are negatives but they are mainly due to tight budgets, tight schedules and unmet goals. Just like every school, but Crestview does a lot with a little and we are very satisfied. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
