Beasley Elementary

Summary:

Beasley Elementary is a public elementary school located in Saint Louis, Missouri, serving grades K-5 with a total enrollment of 283 students. The school is part of the Mehlville R-IX School District, which is ranked 95 out of 386 districts in Missouri and has a 4-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Beasley Elementary has consistently ranked in the bottom half of Missouri elementary schools, with a ranking between 276 and 749 over the past 10 years. In the 2023-2024 school year, Beasley ranked 377 out of 906 Missouri elementary schools, with a 3-star rating from SchoolDigger. The school's academic performance, as measured by MAP test scores, is generally lower than the Mehlville R-IX district and the state of Missouri averages across various grade levels and subjects. For example, in the 2023-2024 school year, Beasley's 3rd-grade math proficiency rate was 29.1%, compared to 43.9% for the Mehlville R-IX district and 40.8% for the state.

While Beasley's overall academic performance is below average, the school has performed relatively well for low socioeconomic status (SES) students, ranking in the top third of Missouri elementary schools for this subgroup in the 2022-2023 school year. However, Beasley has had relatively high chronic absenteeism rates, ranging from 15.6% to 23.0% over the past few years, which is higher than the state average. Additionally, Beasley's higher per-student spending and lower student-teacher ratio suggest that the school has access to more resources compared to the state average, but the school's academic performance remains below average, indicating that the efficient allocation and utilization of these resources may be an area for improvement.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote This school continues to go downhill and fast. The saddest part is that the district is doing nothing about it. Beasley dropped another 104 rankings last year and is the lowest in the district.

The problem starts at the top. You have a principle that just doesn't care and runs the school like a prison. She walks around with her walkie talkie bellowing orders. I am at my child's school at least every month for lunch or some activity, and have never seen her smile. At school functions she might want to get off Facebook and pay attention. Teachers talk horribly to student and stifle the children. Personally I have heard my daughters teacher say things like " Why are you even trying to do that, you will only screw it up". Shout at students and glare at them in a way that even scared me.. And this from the Teacher of the Year. The number of good teachers that have left only to be replaced with newer teachers who have to be the bottom of the barrel is sad at best. Let's also not forget that someone is fudging the numbers on student to teacher ratio. In 3 years my child has never been in a class smaller than 24 student. The school and district have nothing of substance for children who excel. The joke of a program called STRETCH consists of one partial day. Other than that the teachers nor school are equipped to work with higher achieving kids. They are forced to sit in an overcrowded class full of behavior problems and get bored stiff learning about things they knew a year or two ago.

The number of children with severe behavior problems ( anger )take away from the kids there to learn. My child has been punched, teased and kicked on a daily basis. After discussing with the principle the goings on in my child's class, I was called by the teacher and instead of discussing my concerns, she starts with. " I wanted to call you about something that happened a month or so ago between ****** and your child. I got the hint quickly.. Shut your mouth or your child pays the price.

As a former student in the Mehlville District I am sad and ashamed of what has happened to this once great district. It's time to sell the house and move. Close Quote

Open Quote We love the other students at the school, but the leadership at the school needs to be replaced. This is the second year under the new principle and the atmosphere has changed from friendly and comfortable to militant and super-critical. The children are not even allowed to speak to one another at lunch and get only a single 15 minute recess. The environment is so negative, I can't wait to move out of the area. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
