Crestwood Elementary

Summary:

Crestwood Elementary is a public elementary school in Saint Louis, Missouri, serving around 450 students in grades K-5. As part of the highly-ranked Lindbergh Schools district, Crestwood consistently outperforms state and district averages on academic assessments, with particularly strong results in math and English language arts.

Crestwood Elementary stands out for its academic excellence, with 4th-grade students achieving proficiency rates of 72.2% in math and 70.1% in English language arts, significantly higher than the Lindbergh Schools district and the state of Missouri. The school also has a relatively low percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch at 14%, compared to nearby schools ranging from 4.21% to 17.44%. Additionally, Crestwood has a lower student-teacher ratio of 13.6, compared to the surrounding schools, which range from 11.9 to 40.2.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote No school needs a "Cultural Diversity" class. They should all be culturally diverse. Otherwise it is just Segregated. Close Quote

Open Quote excellent school - the staff and teachers are fantastic. The curriculum in place has been amazing - reading by end of kdg; adding 3 numbers together in first grade. The CSR (classroom size reduction) teachers come into the class to work with smaller groups of kids. There are also a number of 'creative' projects the kids do - such as creating cities, or going on field trips to botanical gardens and creating a sculpture that would fit into the gardens. These are things kids at expensive private schools would do. The music teacher is fantastic as well - the concerts the kids do are just wonderful, and incorporate the character values the kids are learning in school. I could go on and on - it really is a terrific school. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
