My son has an IEP. He is high functioning but is still special needs and requires extra attention. Borderstar has been extremely helpful and all its teachers have shown caring for my son. His intellect is very high. His IQ is literally off the charts. I feel they give him the curriculum he needs to stay focused and busy. Also, the parents are extremely involved in the school. This school isn't "horrible", but it's definitely not Montessori. The younger kids don't do art or really anything that is central to the Montessori values - they just sit around and do assignments. It's under-staffed and the teachers are pretty cold. One little girl drew a picture at home as a gift for her teacher, and the teacher didn't even look up from her desk when the little girl gave it to her - the teacher just crammed it in a stack of other papers. And, there's a waiting list to get in here for some reason. I get the sense the parents are not involved, just don't care - they just want to pretend their kids are getting something better than public education, and otherwise they're just not involved. I know school choices in KCMO are currently limited - but I wouldn't send my children here unless there were no other choices. Close Quote
