Affton High has consistently ranked in the middle to lower range of Missouri high schools, with a ranking between 147 and 202 over the past 5 years. The school's performance on state assessments (MAP tests) is generally below the state and Affton 101 district averages, particularly in subjects like Algebra I and Algebra II. For example, in 2023-2024, only 19.8% of Affton High students were proficient or better in Algebra I, compared to 36.7% in the Affton 101 district and 41.5% statewide. Affton High also has a relatively high chronic absenteeism rate, ranging from 24.3% to 36.4% over the past few years, significantly higher than the state average.

While Affton High's performance is generally lower than that of nearby high-performing schools like Maplewood-Richmond Heights High and Lindbergh Senior High, it outperforms some nearby schools, such as Central Visual/Perf. Arts High and Southview High, which have significantly lower academic outcomes and higher chronic absenteeism rates. Addressing the challenges faced by Affton High, such as improving academic performance and reducing chronic absenteeism, may be crucial for the school to provide a more equitable education for its diverse student population.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Coming from someone who went there, about 2 of their teachers are worth their salary. Administration is HORRIBLE and just as caddy as the students. If you send your kids here, it must be because you don't love them. They're absolutely ridiculous. There's a new principal from when I was there, but I heard it's not much better. More strict, yet school sucks just as much as it did in previous years, if not sucks more from the things I've heard! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
