Parkade Elementary

Summary:

Parkade Elementary is a public elementary school in Columbia, Missouri, serving 364 students in grades PK-5. The school is part of the Columbia 93 school district, which is ranked 191 out of 376 districts in the state and has a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Parkade Elementary has a more diverse student population compared to nearby schools, with a higher percentage of African American (28.85%) and Hispanic (7.69%) students. However, the school's academic performance, as measured by MAP test scores, is generally lower than the district and state averages across various subjects and grade levels. For example, in 2022-2023, only 16.1% of 5th-grade students at Parkade Elementary were proficient or better in MAP Mathematics, compared to the district average of 38.9% and the state average of 39.1%. The school also has a higher percentage of students (54.95%) receiving free or reduced-price lunch, indicating a higher proportion of students from low-income families.

Interestingly, while Parkade Elementary's African American students perform better than the school's overall performance, they still lag behind their White counterparts, both within the school and at the state level. Additionally, Parkade Elementary's academic performance is generally lower than nearby schools, such as Ulysses S. Grant Elementary, Locust St Expressive Arts Elementary, and Russell Blvd. Elementary, which have higher test scores and overall SchoolDigger ratings. The higher per-student spending at Parkade Elementary suggests that the district is aware of the challenges faced by the school and is attempting to address them through additional resources.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote We have been very pleased with our experiences at Parkade during the past 3 years. Our oldest child attended a different school in Kindergarten and a school boundary change required us to transfer to Parkade. We were initially concerned due to negative reviews we had seen and heard, but we couldn't be happier. Parkade Elementary has a small-town feel despite the size of Columbia. Our children look forward to school every day and are receiving a good education. The PTA hosts a variety of fun family events throughout the school year, and all are well-attended. The staff is very dedicated and friendly and make us feel welcome each time we visit. I would definitely recommend Parkade to other parents without a hesitation. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
