Kairos Academies is a public charter middle school serving grades 5-8 in Saint Louis, Missouri, with 286 students. The school is part of the Kairos Academies District, which is ranked 333 out of 386 districts in Missouri and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger. Kairos Academies has consistently ranked in the bottom half of Missouri middle schools, with a ranking of 367 out of 451 schools in the 2023-2024 school year and a 1-star rating.

Kairos Academies has several key metrics that differentiate it from other schools in the area. The school has had very high chronic absenteeism rates, ranging from 32.5% in 2021-2022 to 53.5% in 2022-2023, which is significantly higher than the state average and nearby schools like Carr Lane VPA Middle, Grand Center Arts Academy Middle, and Gateway Science Academy Middle. Additionally, Kairos Academies' test scores are consistently well below the state averages across all subjects and grade levels, with only 6.2% of 6th graders proficient or better in Math and 7.7% of 5th graders proficient or better in English Language Arts, compared to state averages of 44.4% and 43%, respectively.

Kairos Academies serves a high percentage of low-income students, with 61.19% of students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch in 2022-2023, which is significantly higher than the nearby schools. The school's performance for African American students and low-socioeconomic status students is particularly concerning, with these subgroups ranking in the bottom quarter of Missouri middle schools, with 1-star ratings. Despite spending more per student ($14,259 in 2021-2022) and having a lower student-teacher ratio (5.9 in 2022-2023) than the nearby schools, Kairos Academies' resources do not appear to be effectively translating into improved student outcomes.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Sounds good on paper but honestly, very unsafe school ! Drug use, assault, zero accountability or correction of this behavior. Teachers are inexperienced and admin only cares about tax dollars per head. Good teachers leave. Not a good school for neurodiverse kids bc the director of neurodiversity, Sam Orf, chooses when she wants to do her job and when called for accountability, she will absolutely cop out and blame everyone else for her incompetence and/or laziness. The unfortunate thing is, my daughter suffered tremendously under her care. BEWARE! If your kid is neurodiverse and or has an IEP, Do not send them here!!! This high school is a charter Roosevelt. I’m so disappointed and my daughter’s heart is broken. She was robbed of her education here! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
