KIPP Inspire Academy

Summary:

KIPP Inspire Academy is a public charter middle school in Saint Louis, Missouri, serving 401 students in grades 5-8, with a predominantly African American student population of 94.51%.

Despite its small class sizes and higher-than-average spending per student, KIPP Inspire Academy consistently ranks in the bottom quartile of Missouri middle schools and significantly underperforms the state and district averages on standardized assessments. In the 2022-2023 school year, only 8.5% to 23.7% of students were proficient or better in Mathematics, compared to the state average of 30% to 43.7%. The school's English Language Arts proficiency rates, ranging from 14.7% to 16.6%, also fall far below the state average of 37.3% to 44.1%. This academic underperformance is particularly concerning given that over 99% of KIPP Inspire Academy's students come from low-income families, eligible for free or reduced-price lunch.

Compared to nearby charter schools, such as Grand Center Arts Academy Middle and North Side Community-Grand Center, KIPP Inspire Academy's academic performance is consistently lower, despite having a smaller student-teacher ratio and higher spending per student. The school's statewide ranking has also declined over the past 5 years, from 292 out of 435 Missouri middle schools in 2015-2016 to 405 out of 459 in 2022-2023, suggesting the need for a comprehensive review of its educational strategies and interventions.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote I wish I never sent my children here. The staff talks down to the children. A teacher was fired for bringing a gun to school. Kids are suspended for have drugs on them and not kicked out. They can't seem to nip the behavior problem kids in the bud. They really push testing so the can keep getting money. The staff is rude. The Mr. Armstead is not an effective leader. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
