Frontier School Of Innovation

Summary:

Frontier School Of Innovation is a public charter elementary school serving grades PK-5 in Kansas City, Missouri, with a diverse student population that is predominantly Hispanic (73.71%).

Despite spending more per student ($14,594 in 2021-2022) than nearby schools, which range from $12,125 to $19,719 per student, Frontier School Of Innovation consistently underperforms the state and nearby district averages on MAP assessments in mathematics and English language arts across all grade levels. For example, in 2022-2023, only 24.2% of 3rd graders were proficient in ELA compared to the state average of 42.4%. The school's high percentage of students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch, ranging from 79.32% to 83.94% over the past three years, suggests a high-need student population that may require additional support and resources to improve academic outcomes. In contrast, nearby schools like Topping Elementary and Winnwood Elementary have significantly lower percentages of students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch, ranging from 69.5% to 99.54%.

Frontier School Of Innovation's low SchoolDigger ratings and rankings, consistently in the bottom quarter of Missouri elementary schools, suggest the school is struggling to provide a quality education to its diverse, high-need student population. This is an area of concern that warrants further investigation and potential intervention. The school's unique demographic, with a majority Hispanic enrollment, also sets it apart from nearby schools like Guadalupe Centers Elementary, which has a 96.41% Hispanic student population, and Garfield Elementary, which has a 14.47% Hispanic student population.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
